What is Ear Candling?

Ear candling is actually an ancient Egyptian practice to remove ear wax, is a safe method for in-ear cleansing. For years, the ear candle has been associated with the Hopi tribe of India, however, there is no factual link to the tribe or them having ever used the technique. It is however, a very old technique based upon light suction, obtained by using candlelight.

The General Ear Candling Process

Ear candling is a 30-45 minute long procedure. The person is made to lie on one side and a hollow candle stick made of fabric and beeswax is inserted into the upward facing ear. The other end of the candle is then lit. The hollow shape of the candle helps to create a gentle air flow which can remove excess wax and relieves pressure in the ears when carried out properly. Once this procedure is completed, you may notice an improvement in your hearing ability if you suffer from blocked ears or loss of hearing due to ear wax. After the candle is removed and extinguished, it can be cut open to inspect the residue in order to measure the effectiveness of the procedure. Some of the wax residue is from the candle itself and some from the ear, at this point, some less reputable therapists and suppliers will claim all the residue is your ear wax, it isnt. This debris amount varies from person to person, and sometimes, you wont find any residue in the candle, but, if you put your finger in your ear, you will be able to remove the loosened ear wax or dirt with your finger.
